Valtrex is a viricide, specific inhibitor of DNA-polymerase of herpesvirus. It acts blocking the synthesis of viral DNA and viruses’ replication. Valtrex is active against herpes simplex of 1-2 type, Varicella Zoster virus, Epstein-Barr Virus, cytomegalovirus and human herpesvirus of 6 type. Most often viruses are found in patients with well-defined immunodeficiency, in patients receiving a course of chemotherapy on account of cancerous growth, and HIV-positive people.
Indications:
• Treatment of skin and mucous membranes diseases caused by Herpes simplex virus of 1-2 type, including newly diagnosed and recurrent genital herpes (prevents lesion formation, if the drug is taken after the first symptoms of herpes simplex relapse);
• Prophylaxis of recurrent skin and mucous membranes diseases caused by Herpes simplex virus of 1- 2 type, including genital herpes;
• Treatment of herpes zoster (it hastens the pain disappearance, and reduces its duration and percentage of patients with pain caused by the Varicella zoster Virus, including acute and postherpetic neuralgia);
• Prophylaxis of cytomegalovirus infection, developed with organ transplantation (reduces the intensity of acute transplant rejection, or other herpes infections.
